so should the sage go about in the village.

Na pupphagandho paṭivātameti, na candanaṁ tagaramallikā vā;

The scent of flowers does not go against the wind, nor that of sandalwood, tagara, or jasmine.
But the scent of the virtuous goes against the wind; the good person spreads fragrance in all directions.
